Chapter 63 The Arrival of the Lagrange Nobles
Chapter 63 The Arrival of the Lagrange Nobles
"By the Dragon God!" Roland and Verway heard Renault's exclamation through the tent.
“Your Highness! You should take a look at this!” Renault lifted the tent flap to make room for him.
"What's going on? My God!" Verway peeked out in confusion and was immediately horrified. The once wide street was now covered by swift infantrymen wearing blue chainmail, barrel helmets, carrying 5-meter-long chevaux-de-frise, tower shields, and spiked maces.
"Who are they? When did they arrive?" Verway turned to look at Renault.
"They are the most glorious infantry of Lagrange! The Swift Infantry Legion! They have just arrived here to support the King!" Renault said proudly, looking at the Lagrange dragon emblem on the chests of the Swift Infantry.
"Your men? I didn't realize that!" Verway looked at the seemingly endless Swift Infantry Legion before him, which numbered at least a thousand!
"Don't we have no reinforcements?" Verway turned to look at Roland and asked in confusion.
"It shouldn't be, but we can't rule out exceptions, like the situation we're in now." Roland shrugged; he didn't know how to explain this to Verway.
"So—our chances of winning have increased a bit?" Verway said happily.
"Tell me honestly, are there any reinforcements?" Verway looked at Roland sideways, his face full of excited smiles.
"I don't know. Our people are scattered across the continent, and I can't contact them. Besides, not everyone can come." Roland shook his head; he didn't have the money to send another wave of reinforcements.
"Your Majesty! Your loyal servant Lance requests an audience!" Suddenly, a swift infantryman who stood out from the crowd stepped forward.
Roland was taken aback and carefully observed the Swift Infantryman before him. Why was he considered different? Other Swift Infantrymen were just ordinary soldiers, but this man was actually a second-tier warrior! Although his attire was similar to that of ordinary Swift Infantrymen, it was clear that his chainmail was made of rare metals, and his sharp, slender chevaux-de-frise was shimmering with magical light, clearly an enchanted weapon. Although the tower shield behind him was painted with blue paint, it still couldn't conceal the aura of mithril.
"Who are you? My warrior!" Roland asked curiously.
"I was originally Lord Lance, the lord of Fineleaf Village in the Rapid Province of the Lagrange Empire." Lance gave Roland a noble salute.
"Holy crap? A native noble family of Lagrange? They can actually pull this off?" Roland thought to himself.
"Why are you here?" Roland asked curiously. Damn this system! There was a "big fish" hiding among a group of ordinary infantry!
"Having learned that Your Majesty is here, I have come to protect Your Majesty!" Lance said respectfully.
"What about this Swift Infantry Legion?" Roland wanted to know Lance's relationship with this legion.
“Your Highness, I am the commander of this legion. We have been wandering in the far north for a long time, and have lost nearly half of our men. Knowing that you have raised the banner of Lagrange again, we have come here to defend your and the glory of the Empire!” Lance said in a firm and powerful voice.
To be fair, the system's memory implantation was quite reliable, and no one questioned it after hearing it. However, what Roland was concerned about was just how outrageous the Lagrange in the game was! A lord whose territory was only the size of a small town could actually lead a 3,000-strong Swift Infantry Legion running all over the place! I want a dozen lords like that in the future.
"So you've governed territories before?" Roland suddenly realized something, discovering the boy's talent! A talent! A truly exceptional talent! Roland had no one under his command who understood governance, resulting in various incomplete facilities and buildings in Swiftstream City, with constant problems with details. Now, with a Lagrange nobleman, things would be much easier. "Yes, Your Majesty! However, my abilities are only sufficient to govern towns of the small to medium size; I haven't governed anything too large." Lance possessed the dignified yet humble demeanor befitting a Lagrange nobleman.
"It's alright, there aren't many people in Swiftstream City right now. From today onwards, you are the civil affairs officer of Swiftstream City!" Roland waved his hand, leaving the mess of civil affairs in Swiftstream City to Lance.
"Yes, sir!" Lance replied, bowing his head.
Roland quickly opened the page for Swiftstream City to check its current attributes, only to find that the evaluation, which had remained unchanged for ages, had actually changed.
Swiftstream City:
Area: One kilometer in radius.
Building units: 1 dilapidated lord's castle, 80 crumbling houses, 20 shabby houses, intermediate magic-inlaid city wall, stone well, blacksmith shop, barracks.
Commanders: Caslo (Tier 3), Reno (Tier 4), Radil (Tier 4)
Special Personnel: Ivy (Tier 3)
City Defense Officer: Marcus (Tier 4)
Political Officer: Lance (Second Rank)
Troop strength: 2110
Population: 894 (183 civilians who can be trained)
Evaluation: The lonely king led his surviving people back to their homeland and built this city with high walls. The city has few inhabitants, but everything is developing in a positive direction. The city's military is strong enough to defend it, but it still cannot withstand the emerging darkness alone. The good news is that the city has finally welcomed its own city defense officer and political officials. Note: A tribe of grassland elves is stationed in the city; using them strategically can have unexpected and wonderful effects.
Abilities: 1. As the only territory of the Kingdom of Lagrange in Middle-earth, she will attract the remnants of Lagrange. The system will guide a wave of wandering Lagrange civilians to her territory every day, hoping that the lord can properly settle them.
2. Allow the recruitment of local civilians to train swift infantry.
"Oh my god! Finally, he's not that good-for-nothing anymore..." Roland was so moved he almost cried. Being a king is hard, being the King of Lagrange is hard, and being a qualified King of Lagrange is even harder!
"Your Highness, if I have the opportunity, I would like to rebuild this lord's castle in front of me," Lance whispered to Roland.
"It fucking needs fixing!" After saying that, he glared at Renault, who quickly turned his head away, touching his nose as if to say, "You can't see me."
"I've handed over all the administrative affairs to you. You handle it!" Roland clapped his hands, looking like a hands-off manager.
"These houses also need repairing; it would be bad if they collapsed and injured someone." Lance skillfully took out a parchment and an ink pen and began to write and draw.
"If you see anything missing, anything that needs fixing, or anything that needs improvement, just go to Renault and have him assist you. You can also hire residents from the town to do the work. As for the payment..." Roland dragged out a box from the corner, which was full of gold coins. Roland had specially kept these for emergencies.
“After all, I can’t let my people work for nothing, can I?” Roland smiled.
