The Lord of the Rings: Lords of Middle-earth.
Chapter 6 Bree
Chapter 6 Bree
After a fierce battle, the remaining orcs scrambled into the woods. Seeing this, Roland decisively stopped the pursuit. He gathered his knights and led the others to continue their journey.
"Between Battle: Completed. Reward: 1 Lagrange Royal Guard Paladin. Can be summoned at any time."
"Holy crap!" Roland exclaimed excitedly, almost blurting out the name of some mysterious plant.
The Lagrange Royal Guard Paladins are one of the most powerful units in the Lord of the Rings games. However, this is only the Third Age, and the Lagrange Royal Guard Paladins only appeared in the Fifth Age. Their rarity is second only to super classes like dragon knights. They barely managed to form a full order of knights, but in reality, they never even managed to gather a minimum of one hundred knights. At their peak, they only had 87 members, and after the Battle of the River Rapids, their numbers dwindled to less than 50, almost causing the entire organization to fall apart. This legion is most famous for its attribute—Holy! The entire order is composed of true paladins, unlike the Papal Knights who use light knights as paladins. Moreover, the quality of their knights is extremely high. The knights who are commonly referred to as the Lagrange Royal Guard Paladins are mostly of the rank of Grand Knight, and nearly half of them are Paladin Commanders. Their commander, Larus, is even a holy hero. Secondly, this legion's equipment was outrageously luxurious. Their entire bodies were forged from dragon-blooded holy steel (refined steel tempered with the blood of a holy dragon), including full-body dragon armor, dragon-patterned swords, dragon spears, and dragon shields, as well as dragon bows with bowstrings made from dragon sinews and bow arms polished from dragon arm bones. You could only see similar equipment on dragon knights. Even elite classes like pegasus knights and griffin knights couldn't compare to them. Hence the saying: "Dragon knights rule the sky, and paladins rule the earth."
Roland now actually has a Lagrange Royal Guard Paladin under his command, and he's so moved he's almost crying. He even suspects the Lord of the Rings system used his lifespan for a lottery... Strictly speaking, the number of Lagrange Royal Guard Paladins is actually less than the number of wyvern knights. You see, when Roland logged into Lord of the Rings, many great lords had wyvern knights under their command, and some wyvern knights could even form a knightly order (the organization of a wyvern order is different from a regular knightly order; a wyvern order only has 50 members because wyvern knights are so rare that you'd have to recruit all the wyvern knights on the entire continent to get 100). Countless players have tried to recruit (or lured) a member of the Lagrange Royal Guard Paladin, but very few have succeeded...
Roland suppressed the urge to summon the paladin now and admire his power, and could only restrain himself and continue the march.
"We're almost at Brie, let's take a break," Roland said to Gandalf and Thorin, glancing at the map.
“Alright, we can go and replenish our supplies. There won’t be many places to resupply in the future,” Thorin said.
“Master Baggins! Tonight we can stay at an inn. You can sleep on a soft bed instead of sleeping on the floor,” Roland teased as he rode up to Bilber, who was riding a pony.
“Oh, really? That’s great! You have no idea how uncomfortable the ground is when you sleep in a tent!” Bill complained.
“Haha, you should thank Gandalf for pulling you out of the Warmth Bag Hole,” Roland said with a smile.
“God! I must have been out of my mind to agree to come out and take this risk with you…” Bill complained.
"That's because you have a restless heart!" Gandalf suddenly exclaimed.
“Haha, the wizard is right!” Roland laughed.
Roland is now very much looking forward to the Lagrange Royal Guard Paladin waiting for him in Bri. Roland has just chosen to summon, and the system has very thoughtfully set that the knight will be waiting for him in Bri. Wait, the knight waiting for him in Bri?
"Holy crap! Could it be Aragorn? He's the protagonist of Lord of the Rings..." Roland suddenly felt a chill.
……
As Roland pondered, he saw the outline of the town of Brie. "Alright, guys, let's enjoy ourselves!"
……
"My lord, this is Renault, the paladin of the Lagrange Royal Guard, reporting for duty!" A tall, handsome man with silver hair, who looked to be around thirty years old, called out as he approached Roland.
Holy crap! Holy crap! Holy crap! Roland was utterly bewildered. The Lagrange Royal Guard Paladin was fine, but Rai was a different story... He couldn't control this knight commander himself.
In The Lord of the Rings, Renoir is known as "Lord Renoir," and the fall of the Lagrange Empire and the devastation of the Lagrange Royal Guard are directly linked to him. Reno essentially single-handedly dominated the storyline and quests of the entire northern map, leading the battles and inciting the Orcs' southward incursion, ultimately causing the collapse of the Lagrange Empire. However, people remember his glory on the battlefield, and he is thus known as the "Dawn of the North."
"Damn it, how did this troublemaker end up under my command? System, can we talk to someone else and get rid of him?" Roland lamented inwardly.
"Welcome, valiant paladin! Welcome to our ranks." Roland forced a smile as he greeted the knight who had come to join him.
"Hopefully his troublemaking abilities haven't been brought over... Otherwise, the Battle of Five Armies would just add a few more enemy forces, that would be too vivid a picture." Roland thought of this guy's built-in enemy reinforcement buff.
"Renault, can you still cast your Divine Domination Aura?" Roland suddenly remembered this most important question.
“Of course, my lord! If you wish, I can release him now,” Renault said respectfully.
"That's good." Roland breathed a sigh of relief. If the system hadn't provided the Holy Aura for the Lagrange Royal Guard Paladins, Roland would have really had to look for a return window. The Holy Aura for Paladins is incredibly valuable; it increases the physical and magical resistance, stamina, morale, and health of friendly units within a certain range, and allows them to incorporate holy attacks into their attacks. As one of the top Paladins, Rael's aura covers all friendly units within a 500-meter radius of him. In the Lord of the Rings world, which lacks group buff magic, the Holy Aura is a powerful tool; used well, it can at least double your combat power.
"Reno...!" Roland almost called him "Lord Reno" in his excitement.
"My lord!" Renault immediately stepped forward.
"Caslo and the Battanian archers will protect me, and the knights are yours to command." Roland waved his hand, and the knights were handed over to Reno. After all, Reno, who had commanded millions of player troops in the game, could easily command a mere hundred knights. Roland himself did not have a command buff, Caslo was a dragon knight and had no experience in commanding ground knights, while Reno, with his aura skills, was Roland's guiding light in the darkness, both convenient and effective.
“Yes, my lord. May the glory of Lagrange shine upon us,” Renault said humbly.
