The Lord of the Rings: Lords of Middle-earth.
Chapter 296 Ahead
"Are you rested enough? We need to speed things up! Those nomads said that the besieged fortress is very likely Lulong Fortress!" Luke Leopold said.
“By the Dragon God! Wasn’t this fortress destroyed in the War of Destruction back then?” Merck Leopold was very surprised.
"It's possible that they were collected and sealed away by alchemists, and then rebuilt here!" Luke shook his head. This was the only guess he could think of. After all, everyone knew that Lulong Fortress and other war fortresses were destroyed along with the Northern Wall, and the overwhelming Dark Alliance army swarmed across the entire Northern Wall like ants...
"That should be the case! I wonder if there are any other war fortresses left behind!" Merck Leopold thought with anticipation.
"Stop dreaming! It's lucky that one Lulong survived! Other fortresses might not be so fortunate! After all, the alchemists who could seal these behemoths perished back then! Those wise men didn't have the time to save these buildings when the empire was in peril!" Luke Leopold shook his head. It was already a blessing from heaven that one fortress survived! In fact, the entire Middle-earth didn't even have the ability to build a true war fortress!
“That’s true, but they should be able to hold out for a long time with a war fortress! In my memory, apart from those epic battles, almost no one has been able to directly breach a war fortress!” Merck Leopold said, looking at his brother.
“What if they are short-handed… or the fortress is damaged?” Luke Leopold asked quietly.
"Damn it! We need to speed things up!" Merck Leopold clenched his fist. If a war fortress fell to the orcs... that would be a disaster! For one thing, if the orcs outnumbered them enough, they could easily exert influence over an area of hundreds of kilometers...
……
"Good heavens! What's wrong with Swiftstream City!" Caslo complained as he lay on the dragon's back, his voice swallowed up by the howling wind.
"Hey! Hold on tight, my knight! I'm going to have a race with the big guy next door!" Kaldo shouted, communicating with Caslo telepathically.
"Huh? Damn it!" The powerful push came from behind, and Caslo felt dizzy and on the verge of death.
"Hey! Boys! Show them what's what!" Ajax patted Renoir's back, her beautiful eyes smiling as she looked at the storm dragon spiraling and tumbling high in the sky.
"Oh! Good girl, I hope you won't wet your pants in fright!" Renoir let out a dragon's roar and then suddenly flapped his wings, instantly increasing his speed.
……
"Watch out for the arrows! Hey! Watch out!" Renault grabbed a soldier, and several arrows whistled past the crenellation where the soldier had just peeked out.
"Soldiers! Be careful! We are not those mindless scum! It's not worth trading your lives with them! I want you to kill the enemy while ensuring your own survival!" Renault emphasized loudly.
Although no one in the fortress has been killed, many of the defenders are seriously wounded and unable to fight anymore! The only remaining priest is so busy that he's practically a husky, constantly running around the fortress. His magic power hasn't recovered at all, and if this continues, he'll soon be exhausted and die.
"Renault! Damn it! I need reinforcements!" Apophis Breo and his knights fought fiercely against the orcs climbing the outer city walls. The sharp knightly greatswords were as light as weight in the hands of the King's Landing knights. They casually slashed at the orcs who dared to show their faces, but the sheer number of orcs eventually pushed them forward. Several King's Landing knights were knocked to the ground. Although they mustered their battle aura and tried their best to resist, the situation was not optimistic.
"Spearmen and shieldmen! Charge!" Renault glanced at the figures below and immediately felt a headache coming on. Good heavens! The knights of King's Landing were almost overwhelmed by orcs!
"Thud!" The line of spearmen and shieldmen quickly moved out, shield against shield, their spears swept across the entire outer wall. Any orc that appeared in front of them would be lifted up and thrown off the wall, turning into a mosaic.
"Damn it! These bitches! Damn it!" Apophis Breo, having successfully escaped the clutches of the corpses, broke free from their restraints and rose from the pile of bodies. "Thanks!" Apophis Breo expressed his gratitude to the gun-and-shield soldiers.
“Is anyone dead? If anyone’s dead, just say so!” Apophis Breo yelled at the top of his lungs.
The scene fell into an unusual silence, clearly indicating that no one had been killed.
"Hehehe! Get up! Keep fighting! How could the knights and men of King's Landing fall in this wretched place!" Apophis Breo wiped the bloodstains covering the gaps in his helmet.
"My lord! One of our brothers has been wounded!" a King's Landing knight suddenly cried out.
Apophis Breo pushed through the crowd and saw the wounded knight. His breastplate was flattened, and it was a miracle that he was still alive.
With everyone's help, they quickly removed the tattered armor from the wounded knight. After a brief inspection, they immediately reported to Apophis Breo, "My lord! He has several broken ribs, suffered a severe head injury, and is losing a lot of blood! We must find a priest to save him!"
"A few men, take him back! The rest of you, stay here with me and continue to hold off the orcs!" Apophis Breo immediately gave the order. The outer wall still had to be defended; these orcs couldn't be allowed to climb up easily. It was easy for them to get up, but it would be difficult to drive them back down!
"My lord! A signal has come from the inner city! The orcs are attacking from the north!" A King's Landing knight ran over.
"Let's go! Head north! Leave the remnants here to the archers up there!" Apophis Breo decided immediately. There weren't many orcs left below the city, so even if they climbed up, it wouldn't be a big deal. What trouble could these few people cause?
"Bang!" A jar full of grease was thrown onto the orc's siege equipment. A King's Knight casually tossed a torch down, and a raging fire instantly engulfed the equipment.
……
"Big brother! Stop... take a break... stop!" Merck Leopold gasped for breath, leaning on his chevaux-de-frise, a clear look of naivety in his eyes.
"Damn it! Was your military training taught by orcs? You've only walked a few steps and you're already like this?" Luke Leopold stared wide-eyed as if he were seeing his younger brother for the first time.
"Almost there! I can already smell the blood!" Luke Leopold looked up and sniffed hard, the faint smell of blood in the air seeping into his nostrils.
"Hmm? Wait a minute, let me smell this!" Merck Leopold also looked up and sniffed hard. Great! It's the familiar smell of rust!
“I think…we might have arrived!” Luke Leopold suddenly froze, pointing into the distance.
"Oh my God! My goodness! By the Dragon God! What a magnificent fortress!" Merck Leopold stood up and stared blankly at the grand fortress standing on the banks of the swift-flowing river.
"Halt! We'll rest for half an hour! Prepare to attack!" Luke Leopold waved his hand.
Lulong! I'm here!
Typing on the high-speed train... I'm so miserable.
