Chapter 175 Battle of the Inner City
Chapter 175 Battle of the Inner City
"Ski! Dragon's Breath, clear the way!" Peter Gro shouted at Skie in the sky as soon as Iovia's Hunting Moon dissipated due to the exhaustion of battle energy. Without the cover of area-of-effect skills, even a group of goblins with pitchforks could ambush and kill the top professionals. Just like how a formation of swift infantry could overthrow a knightly order if they were willing to sacrifice lives.
Peter Gross certainly couldn't really leave himself and Iovia among the orcs; a tiger entering a flock of sheep and being surrounded are two different things.
"Your Highness!" Peter Groh tackled the spirited Iovia to the ground as the cold, lifeless breath of the star dragon grazed past their heads.
In such a cramped place, the dragon's breath, which can reach every corner, can have the maximum killing effect. It has to be said that it is really comfortable to "catch fries" in Middle-earth, a place lacking in attack power. The orcs are completely unable to stop a dragon with its firepower fully unleashed. Even the Ringwraiths hid in the shadows. After all, in defense, the Ringwraiths are no different from other ordinary orcs in their role against dragons.
Roland will one day be glad that he has the El Niño Rangers, a team with special bonuses in anti-air combat, so that at least he won't become a sitting duck when facing enemy air units.
“…Those who ride dragons are truly freaks!” Iovia said to Peter Gross after taking a deep look at the horrific destruction caused by the dragon's breath and the various limbs and broken pieces left behind.
"Your Highness! Follow the soldiers! Don't go alone! Don't forget your father!" Peter Gro grabbed Iovia's shoulders and shook her. He didn't want Iovia to suffer the same fate as his father, being surrounded and killed by ordinary orcs because of her bravery in battle! The Battle of the Black Gate was not only a pain for the woodland elves, but also a pain that the star elves would never want to mention.
"Your Highness!" Seeing Iovia stunned, Peter Gros immediately shook him, reminding him that he was still on the battlefield.
“Phew—I understand! Go see Thranduil! The road there is difficult.” Iovia shook her head, burying her sorrow deep inside, and said to Peter Gros after calming herself down.
“Then be careful, I’m going to check on King Thranduil!” Peter Grove transformed into a firefighter, rushing between the various allied forces.
……
"Maintain formation! Don't panic!" Thranduil commanded his soldiers anxiously, watching the orcs surging in from both sides.
"Advance steadily! They are nothing but beasts! Raise your longbows! Set up your spears! Hold your shields tight! Victory belongs to us who stand in the light! They will only be able to eke out a living in the darkness! Long live the free people! Let us cut off their heads! Split their chests! Let their corpses show our might!" Thranduil shouted, inspiring the allied forces under his command.
"Kill!" Faced with orcs outnumbering them several times over, the allied forces unleashed even greater fighting power out of fear. Fear can not only make people cowardly, but it can also drive them mad! Clearly, the allied forces led by Thranduil belonged to the latter category!
Sharp steel spears pierced flesh, drawing out sprays of purplish-black blood and wisps of flesh clinging to the barbs at the spearhead. Exquisite scimitars cleaved flesh with a soft tearing sound, blood slid down the blade, bones and tendons were separated, and the gushing blood instantly pooled on the ground. Shields clashed repeatedly in the hands of the two sides, accompanied by the cracking of wood and the bending of iron plates... the entire battlefield was in chaos...
Thranduil was horrified to discover that, due to the winding and narrow terrain, the allied forces had been scattered! Small groups of soldiers huddled together, back to back, desperately holding their ground against the surging orcish onslaught. Soldiers fell continuously under the orcish attacks, their crimson blood mingling with the orcs' purplish-black blood… The elves abandoned their proud archery, the dwarves discarded their heavy spears, and the humans swallowed hard, raising their longswords. They were no longer fighting for their king and the alliance; they were fighting for themselves, for survival!
"We've entered the inner city, Your Highness!" said an elven guard following Thranduil, panting as he carried a scimitar.
"Gather! Everyone assemble! Move toward me! Our dragon knights are here!" Thranduil saw the star dragon Skaarne hovering in the sky and suddenly felt a pang of envy. It's really great to have aerial power!
Meanwhile, Peter Groh was having a headache. The chaotic battlefield below left him with no way to make a move. The Dragon Warriors and Dragon Knights, whose group damage effects were terrifying, were only partially effective in the melee. The grappling between the two sides was giving Peter Groh a headache.
"Ski! Deal with the orc reinforcements first! It's too chaotic here, we can't be of much help!" Peter Gro said decisively. Rather than flying kites here, it's better to kill the endless stream of orc reinforcements.
“Star Dragon Meteor Shower!” Peter Groh ordered Skye, looking at the crooked and twisted roads. The Star Dragon Meteor Shower, whose position could be precisely controlled, was clearly the better choice.
Dragon power burst forth, directly constructing an exquisite and profound magic circle in the air. As the magic circle took shape, dozens of meteors the size of human heads, trailing eerie blue streaks, crashed down from the sky, striking the area where the orcs were gathered with unparalleled precision under Skye's control.
"Boom!" Amidst flying stone chips, the orcs were flung into the sky by the burst of dragon power, scattered everywhere like tattered sacks. As the annihilation effect of the Star Dragon Power took hold, countless orcs began to dismember, weather, and dissipate...
"Hold on! Kill them! For our fallen kin! Slaughter them all!" Thranduil hacked and slashed at the orcs. He couldn't even unleash a full Moonhunter's Sight now. As the Hunter's signature ability, Moonhunter's Sight was not only incredibly powerful, but also consumed a terrifying amount of energy.
"Huff, huff, huff!" Thranduil panted heavily as he looked around. The familiar surroundings instantly gave him the illusion of returning to thousands of years ago, but the dilapidated scene quickly told him that it was just a dream. This place was now the domain of orcs. Tears streamed down his face silently. The strong elven king forced his weary body to stand up and gripped his elven scimitar, which still shone brightly after thousands of years, as he charged step by step toward the inner city.
"For... the Black Gate... our lost glory!" Thranduil murmured, his eyes smeared with blood. Though utterly disheveled and exhausted, his eyes grew brighter. Closer... closer... the Royal Palace was just ahead...
"Kill! For the Woodland Kingdom! People of the Goddess of Nature! We are about to reclaim our lost home! Charge! Charge! Drive these scum back to their filthy burrows!" Thranduil roared excitedly, his scimitar swinging even faster.
“They’re all insane… They’re all insane!” Peter Gro stared incredulously at Thranduil, who was leading the charge. He had thought Eovia was crazy enough, but he was instantly captivated by Thranduil. Sure enough, elves are all stubborn madmen.
