Chapter 34 Discussion
Grandma Wang's hands trembled. This really appeared out of thin air, or was she just getting old and her eyesight was failing?! Little Ayu saw that her grandmother hadn't spoken for a long time and thought that she didn't believe her, so she felt a little wronged.
She tried to lift her pursed lips, pursed them, and stretched out her hand, intending to perform again.
"Alright, Grandma knows you didn't lie to Grandma." Grandma Wang quickly took little Ayu's hand.
The doll wasn't holding anything in its hands, yet it managed to pour out half a bowl of water, which was enough to convince her.
With a conflicted look at the water in the chamber pot, Old Mrs. Wang gritted her teeth, picked up the chamber pot, and carried it out of the house.
When the Wang family saw the old lady come out, they all craned their necks to look, only to see that she was carrying a chamber pot!
People in the countryside aren't particularly particular, but they rarely bring out chamber pots during the day either.
"Mother, why did you bring out the chamber pot?" Wang Chuanman asked first.
Grandma Wang said irritably, "Here's some for you to drink, do you want some?"
Wang Chuanman: "..."
Old Wang disagreed: "It's almost dinner time, why did you bring this up?" Doesn't he care that he can't eat?
"Did I interrupt your dinner?" Old Mrs. Wang waved the chamber pot in her hand. "If you keep nagging, I'll make you wash it!"
Old Wang turned his head away: "I can't be bothered with you."
Seeing that others were also looking over, Old Mrs. Wang coughed lightly, and everyone scattered like birds and beasts.
They were afraid they would be the next ones to be scolded.
Grandma Wang carried the chamber pot out and first went to the place where Xiao Ayu was pulling up soybean vines, intending to pour the water directly onto the weeds.
Try it and see if it really works.
Little Ayu followed closely beside her. When Grandma Wang saw the little girl staring at her hand, she felt that this was not a good thing.
He simply went to the chicken coop, took out the manure bucket, poured the water from the chamber pot into it, then carried it to the ditch in front of him, scooped out half a bucket of water with a manure ladle, and mixed it with the water in the chamber pot.
"Ayu, do you have any soybeans left? Give Grandma a few." Grandma Wang looked at little Ayu's little soybeans; there were quite a few beans inside.
Little Ayu buried her head and rummaged through her little pocket, pulling out a handful of beans.
There are kidney beans, soybeans, and a few peanuts.
They are all raw.
Grandma Wang took a few beans, dug a hole behind a tree, scattered the beans in, and poured in a ladle of water.
"Is that all?" asked Grandma Wang.
Little Ayu nodded: "Yes, water it, it will grow taller and be free of bugs."
"Alright, then we'll wait for the beans to grow tall." Old Mrs. Wang put the manure bucket aside, tore off two banana leaves, and covered it with the manure.
"Grandma, give it some water." Little Ayu pointed to the banana tree whose leaves had been plucked.
"Alright, as you wish." Old Mrs. Wang didn't think anything of it and poured two more scoops of water on the banana leaves.
He first washed his hands repeatedly in the ditch, then washed the chamber pot again, before taking Xiao Ayu back home.
When Grandma Wang and Xiao Ayu went out to plant beans, Liu also pulled Wang Chuanman into the room.
Liu asked, "When you rescued Ayu, did anything unusual happen?"
"What's the matter? Nothing, right?" Wang Chuanman didn't think that much about it; he was busy working all day.
Liu felt that Ayu was hiding a secret, especially after she fell into the snake pit and saw with her own eyes that a pile of fruit suddenly appeared in Ayu's hands. If Ayu hadn't scattered the fruit into the snake pit, she might have already been eaten by the snakes.
Snakes generally don't attack people unless provoked, but if anyone trespasses into their territory, it's usually a fight to the death.
The snake spared her, but then deliberately caused trouble for the people of Shanyang Village, leading her to suspect that Ayu's identity was unusual.
She was also afraid that if others found out, it would be bad for Ayu. So when her mother-in-law asked, Liu deliberately hid half of it.
Wang Wulang was also present at the time, but he didn't see Ayu's actions, so Old Madam Wang would naturally ask Wang Wulang about it.
Liu told half the truth, which matched Wang Wulang's story, so she wasn't afraid of her mother-in-law's suspicion.
“Ah, if we’re talking about something special, there really is one,” Wang Chuanman said. “On my way back, my older brother and I encountered two people on horseback. They were running incredibly fast even on the snow. Those horses must have been quite good; they didn’t feel sticky at all.”
Liu interrupted his rambling: "Where did those two appear? Did they say anything to you?"
"They were very aggressive; I even got bumped into. They rushed off without even looking back. Later, after walking a while longer, we found a package on the ground. At first, we thought it was something those two had dropped—"
At this point, Wang Chuanman suddenly realized, "They threw Ayu away?!"
Liu was utterly astonished; how slow-witted must her husband be to only realize something was wrong now!
It was obvious that Ayu was lost by those two.
Being able to afford to ride a horse indicates that their family is not poor. Although the cloth used to wrap Ayu in swaddling clothes is worn, it is something they would rather grit their teeth and not buy.
This also proves that the family that lost Ayu was definitely not as poor as they were.
"What if someone comes to our village and tries to take my daughter away?" Wang Chuanman was genuinely nervous; he adored his daughter.
Now I have motivation to work every day, and I even feel happy when my mother scolds me.
He's the only one in his family with a daughter!
Liu took a deep breath, resisting the urge to pinch Wang Chuanman's ear: "They've already lost it, they definitely won't look for it again."
Moreover, leaving a child outside under such circumstances is tantamount to murder to silence them.
I've heard that wealthy families have many rules and regulations, and they're prone to killing people indiscriminately!
Liu had thought about this countless times before, but she was convinced that Ayu was her daughter and no one could take her away.
"In short, just don't go around telling everyone, especially not to people outside the village."
Wang Chuanman nodded emphatically: "Okay, I understand."
Meanwhile, the eldest son and his wife were also worried.
Madam Feng whispered to Wang Chuanfu, "Husband, something seems off about Ayu. Should we talk to Mother and keep this a secret?"
Wang Chuanfu wasn't particularly wise; he was just an ordinary country farmer who listened to his parents when he was young, listened to them when he grew up, and listened to his wife after getting married.
Like his father, he doesn't make decisions unless he needs to step up and take charge.
"Go and talk to your mother. I'm not good with words, I don't know how to say it." Mainly, he was really afraid of his mother.
His mother was the one who would physically beat people. The wives would only grumble when they were scolded, but the sons and grandsons would both be scolded and beaten.
It doesn't hurt that much, but it's really embarrassing.
Madam Feng nodded, picked up the things she needed, and went back to the kitchen to continue her work: "Okay, I'll talk to Mother after I finish what I'm doing."
