Wizard: I brought the wrong system.
Chapter 303 The only choice
Chapter 303 The Only Choice
In the western corner of the Viscount’s mansion stands a uniquely decorated church.
The strangeness lies not only in the fact that the church-style building has a terrifying angel statue with a blue face, fangs, and wings on its back every few meters on its surface.
It's not just because the entire building's surface has no windows, but is instead filled with fist-sized, pitch-black holes.
It's not because servants are not allowed to approach here, but rather because some servants who have made mistakes are sent here.
The most peculiar thing is that...
The Viscountess, a woman rumored to be sixty years old but who, by all accounts, looks only as a stunningly beautiful sixteen-year-old girl, lives in this strange and peculiar church.
There are also some rumors that Viscount Corey never stayed overnight here.
No one who has ever seen the Viscountess would believe such a rumor.
After all, who doesn't know that Viscount Corey, who is over seventy but looks only in his forties, is most fond of girls of this age?
Moreover, Viscount Corey would often bring various valuable items and personally deliver them to this uniquely styled building, sometimes staying for several hours at a time.
Just like today.
When Viscount Corey received the three strange pieces of amber, he immediately led his servants to take one of them to the church, where it remained until evening.
When I came out, I was soaking wet, but I felt incredibly energetic and looked several years younger.
Viscount Corey, his temples graying, a smug smile playing on his lips, turned to the waiting butler and ordered, "The usual, three today."
The butler bowed slightly and replied solemnly, "Master, there are guests waiting, and you may need to receive them personally."
"A guest who requires my personal audience?"
Viscount Corey looked up at the twinkling stars in the sky and frowned in displeasure: "Are those idiot merchant guilds again? Haven't they behaved themselves yet?"
"Don't they understand that so-called wealth is a term used for trading and circulation, built upon rules? And the rules themselves are based on power!"
"If you have enough power, what can you do if you just take a piece of paper and say it's gold coin, and it's traded? Does anyone dare to refuse?"
"Although I don't have that level of power, here, my words are the rules!"
The butler listened quietly with a respectful demeanor, waited a short while, and after confirming that Viscount Corey had nothing more to say, he explained, "It is a wizard."
"wizard?"
Viscount Corey dropped his arrogant demeanor. "What wizard?"
"A wizard from the Lanelli family." The butler's attitude remained respectful.
"A family? Not the kingdom's wizards?" Viscount Corey pressed for confirmation.
The butler nodded obediently: "Yes, it's the Lanelli family, not the Lanelli Kingdom."
"Quickly! Please come in!" Before Viscount Corey could finish speaking, he glanced at his wet clothes, suddenly realized something, and quickly changed his words, saying, "You go and receive them for me. Gather the singers and dancers, and arrange all the fine wine and food. I'll change my clothes and come over right away."
“I’ve already arranged all that, but the wizards are getting impatient, so they sent me to urge you on. I’ve also brought your clothes. Would you like to change here?” The butler’s suggestion was very unbecoming of noble etiquette, but it was praised by Viscount Corey.
"Well done! Change it for me right away!"
The well-prepared maids quickly wiped Viscount Corey's body and changed him into a decent set of clothes.
The maids respectfully withdrew, carrying the damp, sticky clothes. The butler followed Viscount Corey to the drawing room, asking in a low voice along the way, "Master, is Madam angry with you?"
“Blame them? Because of Edmund Thomas’s arrogance?” Viscount Corey shook his head as he continued walking. “They just want to use this to get more benefits out of me.”
"For example... like their kind who died in the San Fernando Empire, they can obtain a fiefdom from me."
"That's impossible!" the butler instinctively denied.
Viscount Corey nodded approvingly: "Of course not. I've even driven out my adult sons, and so many knights haven't received fiefs. What makes them think they can make such a request!"
The butler glanced around instinctively, realizing they were still too close to the strange church, and quickly interjected, "Master, the kingdom would never allow such a request, nor could they possibly stand against the true masters of the kingdom, the wizards of the Lanelli family."
Upon hearing this mature remark, Viscount Corey felt a chill run down his spine, realizing he had once again made the mistake of arrogance, and quickly changed his tone:
“Indeed! The true owners here are the Ranelli family, and we are merely their shepherds. How can we shepherds dare to make decisions about bringing in outsiders without the permission of the true owners?”
"Hurry up, hurry up, don't keep the wizards of the Lanelli family waiting."
The two quickly left.
All that remained was a silent, eerie church.
One after another, the grotesque, pure white angel statues, under the dim starlight, resembled evil spirits, seemingly watching their hurried departing figures.
……
"Yaro, how are we going to find those lost little fairies?"
The girl asked in a low voice, her voice trembling slightly, as if she were afraid of this unfamiliar environment.
“We’ll go to the Viscount’s mansion and ask Viscount Corey directly for it.” Stepping on the slippery ground, Yaro held the girl’s hand and confidently walked through the dark alley.
Strange noises could be heard from time to time in the alley; it was unclear whether they were from a giant rat or some small, thin children.
However, these creatures hiding in the darkness wisely remained silent after noticing Yaro's 'robust' body.
At a glance, they recognized that this person was wearing full armor—those with slightly poor eyesight would have been dead long ago, and it would be difficult for them to be alive now.
"Just ask?" Bai Lu's voice was a little louder, which alerted the soldiers patrolling the main street.
"Quiet down, all of you! If you make any more noise, I'll bury you all!" The soldier glanced at the dark alleyway, hesitated for a moment, and walked away cursing.
Everyone is afraid of the dark, and since there was no further obvious noise or any compelling orders from their superiors, they didn't bother to investigate.
After the patrolling soldiers left, Yaro lowered his voice and said as he led the white deer, "That's right! The only thing we know is that those elves will be given to Viscount Corey, and given that we can't afford to delay, this may be our only option."
