Harry Potter and the Great Old Ones
Chapter 340 Christmas Prelude
Chapter 340 Before Christmas
Tyrell smiled, raised her hand, and brought it close to Harry's forehead, then:
"Bam—"
"What are you thinking about at such a young age?" Tyella flicked Harry's forehead hard.
"Ouch..." Harry cried out, clutching the spot where Tierra had flicked him. "You're not much older than me!"
“I’m mentally older than you, you should call me uncle.” Tierra rolled her eyes and said, “Instead of wasting time thinking about these nonsense things, you should just go and invite a girl. I think Ron’s sister, Ginny, would be pretty good.”
“Mmm…” Ron nodded with his mouth full of steak. “If you… smack smack… if you invite Ginny… smack smack… she’ll be absolutely thrilled… smack smack…”
“From…smack smack…from the beginning of first grade…smack smack…every summer…smack smack…she would make me tell…smack smack…your story…smack smack…” Ron said, chewing.
“Oh… okay, alright…” Harry said, looking a little dejected, “We’ll see…”
For the next week, Harry was sullen. Before the first competition, Harry would have said that finding a dance partner was a piece of cake compared to dealing with a Hungarian wood bee.
But now that he has easily defeated the tree bee, he is facing the challenge of finding a girl to dance with.
Harry felt he would rather fight the dragon one more round—
With the help of Tierra's magical items, Harry felt that defeating the dragon again would be a piece of cake.
Harry considered himself a bit of an introvert, so even though he spent Christmas at school every year, he didn't know many of the students who registered for Christmas at Hogwarts.
Because in the past, only a very small number of people stayed on at the school.
But this year is different; it seems all the students in fourth grade and above are staying behind. Harry thinks they're all incredibly excited about the upcoming ball—
At least all the girls were like that. He was suddenly surprised to discover that Hogwarts housed so many girls; he had never noticed before. The girls giggled and whispered in the corridors, shrieking whenever a boy walked by. They excitedly exchanged ideas about what to wear for Christmas Eve…
"Why do they always hang out in groups?" Harry asked Ron—just then, a dozen or so girls walked by, eyeing Harry and giggling. "How do you wait until they're alone, grab one of them, and make a request?"
"Lasso one?" Ron suggested. "Have you decided who you're going to ask?"
Harry didn't answer.
The very next day, a curly-haired third-year student from Hufflepuff School—
Harry had never spoken to her before, but she invited him to the ball. Harry was so surprised that he refused without thinking. The girl walked away, looking deeply hurt.
Throughout the History of Magic class, Harry had to endure Dean, Seamus, and Ron's taunts and mockery of the girl.
The following day, two more girls came to invite him, one was a second-year student, and the other was a fifth-year student. Looking at their expressions, it seemed that if Harry dared to refuse, she would knock him unconscious.
"She's quite pretty," Ron said impartially, when he had finished laughing.
"She's a foot taller than me," said Harry, still in shock. "Imagine dancing with her. I'd make a fool of myself!"
Harry scratched his head in frustration—
Since inviting Luna to be her dance partner, Tyella has been spending the last few days playing with Luna Lovegood, leaving Harry with almost no time alone with Tyella outside of class.
The last week of the semester was increasingly bustling and noisy at school.
People were spreading rumors about the Christmas ball, but Harry didn't believe most of them—
For example, Dumbledore bought eight hundred barrels of flavored mead from Rosmerta, the Three Broomsticks.
However, it's possible that his reservation about the Strange Sisters is true. As for who or what the Strange Sisters are, Harry doesn't know, because he's never heard wizard radio broadcasts, but judging from the excitement of his classmates who have been listening to wizard radio broadcasts since childhood, the Strange Sisters seem to be a very famous band. Perhaps it's this lively wave of emotion around him that has made Harry, who hasn't decided on a dance partner yet, excited as well.
Some professors, like the short Professor Flitwick, seeing that the students were clearly distracted, simply stopped lecturing. He allowed them to play games in his Wednesday classes, while he spent most of his time talking to Tierra, trying to get the information out of her about the two spells she had used in the first match of the Triwizard Tournament—
“Flash Charm, Flash Charm, Flash Charm, Professor,” Tierra said.
“It’s the Summoning Charm, it’s the Summoning Charm, it’s the Summoning Charm, Professor,” Tierra insisted.
“No way, no way, no way!” Tierra added, “You don’t really think a fourth-year wizard like me would know some spell that even a dueling champion like you doesn’t know, do you? No way, no way!”
Harry swore he saw Professor Flitwick's hand holding the wand tremble slightly, as if he wanted to cast a spell on Tyrell but then stopped himself.
But the other teachers weren't so easy to talk to. For example, Professor Binns' attention was impossible to divert; he continued his arduous trek through his pile of goblin-infested notes—
The students speculated that since Professor Binns did not let his death stop him from continuing to teach, a trivial matter like Christmas could not possibly distract him.
It's strange, really, that Professor Binns could make such a bloody, thrilling tale of a goblin rebellion sound as dry and tedious as Percy's Crucible Report. He was quite a character, too.
It seemed that only Tyra and Hermione were diligently taking notes in the entire classroom.
Professors McGonagall and Moody, these two strict teachers, didn't let the students rest either, lecturing until the very last second before get out of class ended.
Professor Shinnap, needless to say, preferred to give Harry a sex-changing potion and then adopt her as his goddaughter rather than let the students play games in class.
He gave the class a somber look and told them that he would test their antidote in the last class of the semester.
Meanwhile, the Hogwarts teachers and students showed a strong desire to impress the guests from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, and they seemed determined to present the castle at its best for Christmas.
The school was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations—
The marble staircase railings were covered with icicles that never melted, and the twelve Christmas trees that were always placed in the auditorium were decorated with all sorts of little trinkets, from glittering holly berries to live, chirping golden owls.
The armors were enchanted; whenever someone passed by, they would sing Christmas carols. Listen to an empty helmet sing, "Oh, come, you devout people!"
—But it’s particularly funny because the armor only knows half of the lyrics. Several times, the dorm supervisor, Uncle Fitch, had to pull Peeves out of the armor because Peeves would hide inside and make up lyrics to fill in the gaps when the armor couldn’t sing. These lyrics were all very crude and unpleasant.
Tierra seems to be getting busier and busier in the lead-up to Christmas.
Almost every night, until Harry went to bed, he would not see Tyella enter the dormitory, and when Harry woke up the next morning, he would find Tyella's bed empty.
Several times, Harry even deliberately scattered a few candies on Tyella's bed before going to sleep. When Harry woke up the next day and looked again, he found that the candies hadn't been moved at all. Harry guessed that Tyella might not have come back all night.
“Hey…Tearah…” Harry had asked hesitantly during class, “You don’t come home every night…what are you doing?”
"I'm preparing a Christmas present for you," Tierra said, her head bowed as she scribbled furiously, calculating something as she spoke.
Harry smiled happily and didn't ask any more questions.
