Harry Potter and the Great Old Ones

Chapter 16 The Magic Wand

Chapter 16 The Magic Wand
“Ah, welcome back, Mr. Hagrid, Mr. Harry, and a little wizard I don’t recognize.” Ollivander poked his head out from the narrow passage between the cabinets.

After leaving the Eeyore Owl Shop, Hagrid, Harry, and Tyella headed straight for Ollivander's Wand Shop.

Although Harry has already bought his own wand, he would like to watch the interesting scene of choosing a wand again.

He was also very curious about which wand Tyella would choose.

"I hope it's also made of phoenix feathers," Harry thought to himself. "It's just too... too... too uncomfortable to have the same wand core as the Mysterio's wand."

“Mr. Wu, please take a step forward.” Ollivander took out a measuring tape with silver markings from his pocket.

“I’m right-handed,” Tierra said obediently.

"Raise your arm, okay, good."

Ollivander unfolded the measuring tape and took Tiera's measurements, first from shoulder to fingertips, then from wrist to elbow, shoulder to floor, knee to armpit, and finally head circumference.

As Ollivander measured, he repeated that same old line:
“Every Ollivander wand contains extraordinary magical substances, which is its essence. Mr. Wu, we make wands with unicorn hair, phoenix tail feathers, and dragon nerves. Every Ollivander wand is unique because no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are exactly the same... Of course, if you use a wand that should belong to another wizard, you will never get such good results.”

When Tierra measured the distance between her nostrils, she discovered that the measuring tape was operating automatically.

Mr. Ollivander had already turned back to the shelving area and was busy selecting some long boxes to carry down.

To be honest, Tiera had absolutely no idea what the point of this measurement was.

According to the Alchemy section of the Necronomicon, wizards are three-dimensional magical beings, and the best wand is the wizard's own body.

If one absolutely must have a wand, it only needs to be taken from a living three-dimensional magical creature.

It could be described as the wizard's arm bone, the basilisk's horn, and the phoenix's tail feathers.

The shape doesn't necessarily have to be a staff; it can be a ring, bracelet, necklace, or anything that comes into contact with the body.

But we dared not say anything, dared not ask anything.

“Alright.” Ollivander beckoned the measuring tape and stuffed it into his jacket pocket. “Then, Mr. Wu, please try this one. It’s made of walnut wood, with a dragon heart, and is twelve inches long. It’s a sensitive and suspicious wand, but it’s undoubtedly very strong. Give it a try.”

Tierra took the wand, and as his hand gripped the end of the wand, a feeling of comfort and release surged through Tierra's body like an electric current.

It's like finally being able to pee after holding it in for a long time.

Tiera felt as if the magic within her had suddenly found an outlet.

"Whoosh—" Tiera waved her wand, and a pillar of fire suddenly shot out from the tip of the wand.

It looked like it was about to hit the wand stand on the other side.

Ollivander reacted quickly, drawing his wand from his waist and waving it lightly.

The flames vanished instantly, transforming into countless red flakes dancing in the sky.

“Hmm…not bad…not bad, but…” Ollivander took the wand from Tierra’s hand with some confusion, gave Tierra a deep look, put the wand back in the box, but did not put the box away. Instead, he left it open on the counter.

Then Ollivander picked up another wand and handed it to Tyella.

Tiera waved her hand gently.

This time, Tiera used the Flash Charm, and a dazzling, pure white orb of light appeared at the tip of Tiera's staff.

Tiera was so frightened that she quickly dispelled her magic.

“Wonderful, truly wonderful.” Ollivander moved closer and closer to Tierra, his nose almost touching Tierra’s face, his cloudy eyes scrutinizing Tierra as if trying to see right through him. “I have never seen a young wizard with such powerful innate magic.”

After saying that, Ollivander had Tierra try five more wands. Each wand reacted the same way as the previous ones, and Tierra used them without any hindrance, casting spells with effects far exceeding his expectations.

With the same magic, when Tiera practiced it himself, the Flash Charm could only produce a tiny, rice-grain-sized glimmer at his fingertips.

However, after using the wand, the effect of the Flash Charm was as blinding as a high-wattage light bulb.

After putting the last wand away and returning it to the box, Ollivander looked at Tyella in silence.

Harry and Hagrid looked at each other, completely bewildered, until Tyella felt a chill run down her spine under Ollivander's gaze, at which point Ollivander finally spoke.

“Each wand chooses a wizard, Mr. Wu,” Ollivander said. “Each wand has a different choice.”

"The first one I gave you, made of walnut wood, with a dragon heart, is twelve inches long. It's more suited to a wizard of humble origins but with a strong work ethic. It's a typical hero's wand, and I thought it would be a good match for you."

"But when you use it to perform magic, I can't hear its voice."

"When it came back to me, its response was very ambiguous, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, which is quite rare."

"Then I gave you a second wand, a yew wood wand, made from the nerves of the Ukrainian Ironbelt, eleven inches long. It was designed specifically for Aurors, who love battle and wizards with a strong sense of justice."

"The result is the same; this fierce wand, like the previous one, neither approves nor disapproves."

"The third one is elm wood, unicorn hair, thirteen inches long. It's the most difficult and proud one in our shop, and it only wants to be used by female wizards of noble blood."

"But its answer was also ambiguous."

"The few I gave you afterward were all different, but without exception, their answers were all ambiguous."

“I think your magic is special, a very powerful kind of special,” Ollivander said. “Although I don’t understand why, it’s clear that your magic is special enough to use any wand.”

“So, Mr. Wu, please tell me what kind of wand you want. Since the wand cannot choose the wizard, then the wizard must choose the wand.” Ollivander asked Tyella with some disappointment, as if he was frustrated because his profound knowledge of wands had not yielded any results.

"Whatever..." That's too much to ask of yourself.

Faced with thousands or even tens of thousands of wands, Tiera had no idea where to begin.

"Do you have... that kind of wand that no one can use, but legend has it that once a wizard can use it, it will immediately emit a sky-piercing white light that illuminates the whole of England, and nine silver phantoms of sacred beasts will shoot out from the tip of the wand and circle around their master?" Tierra asked expectantly.

“What you’re talking about is the Sword in the Stone,” Ollivander said expressionlessly. “If you’re interested, you can go back to school and pull it out! It’s sunk in the Black Lake behind your school.”

"The Sword in the Stone is in the Black Lake?" Tierra asked in surprise.

“No, you can’t go.” Hagrid interrupted sternly. “Black Lake is off-limits to students below fourth grade. You are not allowed to go near there without a teacher or at least two adult upperclassmen leading the way.”

“But since you mentioned wands that no one can use…” Ollivander turned around and walked to the back of the wand rack, rummaging through a pile of old, almost rotten boxes and finding a long, thin box made of dark brown wood.

After gently brushing away the dust, Ollivander carefully placed the box on the counter.

“This is a replica of a legendary sacred relic,” Ollivander said. “It was made by my uncle and is the best replica of all the replicas.”

"But not long after the replica was made, my uncle met with misfortune, and since then countless wizards have come to my family, offering huge sums of money to buy the wand, but none of them have been able to use it to cast even the simplest levitation spell."

As Ollivander explained, he slowly opened the box.

"Fifteen inches, elderberry, Thestral tail hair..."
