Chapter 161 Full of Dreams
Chapter 161 Full of Dreams
A blinding flash of light illuminated the darkness.
The man below was clearly caught off guard by Gu Mian's sudden return and was momentarily stunned.
The smug expression on his face vanished, replaced by sudden astonishment.
After realizing what had happened, the man angrily looked up again, but there was no one by the window. From this angle, all he could see was the chandelier on the ceiling.
"Holy crap? What is this white thing?" the fat man exclaimed, staring at the camera screen in Gu Mian's hand.
Gu Mian also looked carefully at the camera in her hand.
The photo makes the man's face look ugly, but that's not what the group was concerned about.
A white shadow was almost pressed against the man's back, as if it wanted to crawl into the tent behind him.
The white shadow seemed to be moving very fast; it was almost a blur in the camera's view.
It seemed to realize that Gu Mian was taking pictures, and even turned its head to face the camera.
It was a face that everyone was very familiar with: dark eyes, a pale face, and wrinkled skin. Not long ago, this grotesque face was behind the window of the building across the street.
The fat man stared at the grotesque face in the photo and gasped, "Is this thing... getting closer to us?"
“Even a blind person could see that,” Gu Mian replied.
They used to be on the building across the street, but now they're downstairs.
Chu Changge narrowed his eyes: "What I'm concerned about is, if its mission is to kill Gu Mian, then why doesn't it just take action? It's been observing us for many days, hasn't it?"
The fat man hesitated for a moment: "If I were a ghost, I would have received a mission to assassinate the doctor..."
The fat man paused again at this point: "Then I choose to commit suicide."
“The ghost down there is different,” Chu Changge said. “It came for Gu Mian from the beginning, and I guess it’s not making a move now because it has other plans.”
"Then why did it go into someone's tent..." the fat man muttered.
The fat man quickly realized why the assassin who came to kill Gu Mian had entered someone else's tent.
He was woken up by a scream.
A piercing female scream rang out downstairs, followed by other noises: a man shouting at him, hurried footsteps, and a child crying.
The sounds were all mixed together, giving the fat man a headache.
He actually wanted to take another nap, but hearing the increasingly loud noises below, he realized he might not be able to get back to sleep.
Gu Mian had already reached the window.
The rest of the room isn't great, but the windows are big, making it feel bright and airy.
The three of them usually don't feel crowded when they get together to peek down.
The fat man quickly walked to Gu Mian's side: "Doctor, what's wrong down there?"
Actually, there was no need to ask; he saw the situation below as soon as he walked over.
A group of people in military uniforms arrived at some point and surrounded one of the tents below.
That tent was the one the middle-aged man lived in; last night, Gu Mian filmed a ghost entering that tent.
Several men who looked like doctors carried a stretcher and pulled a disemboweled corpse out of the tent.
The surrounding crowd looked somewhat panicked; women and children had crowded to the outermost edge. Someone screamed in terror upon seeing the corpse, which was the very thing that had awakened the fat man. "Holy shit?" The fat man stared at the corpse on the stretcher, his scalp tingling.
Because they were looking down from above, they could see very clearly that the corpse's abdomen had been ripped open, exposing its intestines and even revealing its internal organs.
Gu Mian recognized the face; it was the man he had watched as he was led back to his tent yesterday.
There were originally five people living in that tent, but now one or four are dead.
The four men have been taken away by the army, seemingly to be questioned about something.
Then, people in military uniforms began to maintain order, attempting to calm people down.
The fat man scratched his head: "This thing was probably here to assassinate the doctor, right? How come it was dark and its eyesight was poor, and it killed the wrong person?"
Gu Mian looked at him and said, "You look like you'd love for me to be killed by an assassin."
Fatty: "..."
Chu Changge stared downstairs: "The event starts at seven o'clock tonight. I think we might run into some problems."
It must be said that Chu Changge's premonition was indeed very accurate.
Around 3 p.m. that day, four hours before the event was scheduled to begin, someone knocked on Gu Mian and the others' door.
It was a group of people in police uniforms.
Gu Mian had only seen the military these past few days, so she was a little unaccustomed to seeing the police at first.
The police officer didn't waste any time; as soon as someone opened the door, he started questioning them.
"Although this is a special time, we still need to maintain order," the young police officer in the lead said.
The fat man politely invited the person into the living room.
However, the living room sofa was too small to seat so many people, which made the fat man feel a little embarrassed.
Fortunately, the police officer didn't mind and said it didn't matter if he stood there.
"You know that a body was found downstairs this morning?" The lead police officer looked at them.
Gu Mian nodded: "I watched him being carried out."
He paused for a moment, then gestured with his fingers: "It's so long it's like your intestines are about to fall out."
The fat man's expression stiffened when he saw the police officer questioning him.
Then the policeman continued, "The other people in that tent have been taken away by us. According to their statements, it seems you had a conflict with them?"
"How could there be?" the fat man said. "I don't even know what those people down there are called."
The lead police officer nodded without refuting, and then asked the next question.
Perhaps because the social situation is different now than before, the police only asked a few questions briefly and then left, without any intention of inviting them to sit in the station.
The fat man expressed some surprise: "Are police investigations this perfunctory now?"
"Or do you really want to go sit in the police station?" Gu Mian looked at him.
Chu Changge said, "There are too many people here, and there are a lot of conflicts. If we really wanted to manage it, we simply couldn't. Especially for cases like this where even the murderer is unknown, the police don't have that much free time to investigate cases these days."
