Soul Patch

Chapter 154 Consumption of props

Chapter 154 Consumption of props

When Wenjie saw the system notification that patch carrier 4 was exiting the system, he had made this extreme guess.

He simply refused to believe that what was merely an online mission could be nothing more than a murder rehearsal.

In the real world, it's the evening of July 6th, which means that Li Shiman from Huahai International won't be back until tomorrow afternoon to be murdered.

For something that hasn't even happened yet, they're going to fight to the death.

Is the system really that abnormal?

No, it's not the system that's abnormal, but the patch carrier that participated. In order to monopolize the system rewards, it turned on its accomplices.

Wenjie couldn't possibly do something like this.

Thinking of this, Wenjie paused for a moment: Is it really made by a patch carrier?

He took two steps back and stood at the office door.

The girl in the administration department was on the phone. He glanced at the office door, which had been locked the whole time, out of the corner of his eye, and fell into thought.

The person who murdered the assistant must have had a key card, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to get into his office.

Hmm... his office.

This is his office! The murderer is trying to frame him!

What's the point of saying all this now? Since it's his office, he should have a key card.

Where did his access card go?

He then turned his gaze to the girl in the administration department. There were still two patch carriers with hidden identities, and the girl in front of him was holding a newly issued work card.

With that thought in mind, Wenjie took a step away from the girl.

You can't trust anyone now!

Where is Charmaine Li? What is Charmaine Li doing?

His task wasn't about the life or death of the other patch carriers; my task wasn't to find out those patch carriers hiding their identities, but to prevent Li Shiman from being murdered.

At this moment, several building security guards rushed over. The leader of the guards had a dark face, sword-like eyebrows, and looked strong and capable.

"Hello Mr. Wen, this is the security captain, my surname is Wang. I just received a call... someone here has been murdered?"

The security captain, surnamed Wang, asked with a puzzled look, while glancing into the office as he spoke.

He had been working as a security guard in this building for five or six years, rising from a junior security guard to a security captain. He had encountered quite a few fights, disturbances, and thefts, but he had never actually witnessed a murder.

So when he asked, his voice was trembling a little. This wasn't like running up from the security guard's rest room on the first floor and getting out of breath; this was pure fear.

It's a murder case! I'm not a criminal investigator, how can I not be afraid?

He shuddered and turned his head to exchange glances with the security guards behind him.

This clearly indicates that they saw the body at the office door.

“Yes,” Wenjie nodded and said, “I’ll leave this to you. Report the situation to the police later.”

After Wenjie finished speaking, he left the bewildered Captain Wang behind and headed towards the elevator.

At the fork in the corridor, he glanced toward Wen Tianyi's room.

Shouldn't we inform the general manager about this?

He shook his head and went straight into the elevator, which descended to the 16th floor.

After exiting the elevator, he walked straight towards Li Shiman's office. When he was still a few steps away from the office, he could see through the glass door that the office was empty.

What about Charmaine Li?

Wenjie arrived at the open office area, rushed to the nearest workstation, and grabbed the phone on the desk.

An obese man was sitting at his workstation, deep in thought about a design drawing.

Suddenly someone rushed over, startling him so much that he slammed the design drawing shut.

"Oh no, I haven't saved it yet!" He turned his head blankly to look at Wenjie.

"Mr. Wen, I haven't saved it yet!"

"Hmm," Wenjie nodded expressionlessly, as if he had heard. "Please dial the front desk's internal line for me."

The fat man turned his head to look at the telephone receiver that Wenjie was holding, and said woodenly, "That one is the inside line."

The chubby man pointed to the telephone next to him.

"Um"

Wenjie grabbed the phone next to him: "Here, dial!"

A chubby hand reached out and pressed four numbers on the keyboard.

The phone rang three times before a gentle female voice came through the receiver: "Hello, this is the administrative front desk. How can I help you?"

“I am…” Wenjie thought for a moment, paused helplessly, and said, “I am Wenjie from the Marketing Department…”

Wenjie is still a little unaccustomed to the tedious business etiquette in the workplace.

"Hello, Mr. Wen, how can I help you?" The receptionist's voice was sweeter, and Wenjie recalled the girl's enthusiastic face from that morning.

"The building's surveillance is handled by the administration department, right? Have someone from administration send me to retrieve the surveillance footage. The 20th floor... um, the 16th floor, and... and the first floor."

"Mr. Wen... uh... okay, okay, I'll take care of it right away!" The voice on the other end of the phone sounded flustered.

News of a death spreads faster than the air itself; I'm sure everyone in every corner of the building knows that the general manager's assistant has been murdered.

"Oh, by the way, did you see Li Shiman go out?" Wenjie asked casually.

No, I didn't see it.

Wenjie hung up the phone and returned to Li Shiman's office door, lost in thought.

Then a system virtual interface appeared, and a message popped up in the upper right corner:

[Patch Carrier 1 Consumes 1 Item]

Props?

What prop?

What items are available in the system?

Wenjie stared at the word "props" for a long time, then looked down at his wrist.

At 10:43, more than twenty minutes had passed in the blink of an eye, and apart from knowing for certain that a patch carrier had died, nothing had been gained.

Now, besides him, there are three other patch carriers left, two of whom have hidden identities.

How can the other person, who has no hidden identity, get close to Li Shiman?

The chances of someone as lucky as him being the eldest son of the Wen family at Huahai International are practically zero.

He shook his head and smiled: "Yeah, impossible."

"Mr. Wen, what happy thing happened?"

He turned around and saw a short-haired woman wearing a black skirt and a blue silk shirt, holding a document in her hand.

Wenjie narrowed his eyes slightly, focusing his gaze on the name tag on the girl's chest, and carefully examined it: Xue Xiaowan, Public Relations Assistant.

"You walk so quietly," Wenjie said casually, then smiled slightly at the girl.

Xue Xiaowan glanced towards Li Shiman's office, pouted dejectedly, and shook the few pages of papers in her hand: "President Li isn't in her office? There's an interview."

Yes, an interview!

The interview was an opportunity to meet Li Shiman.

"Let me see," Wenjie said, extending his hand to Xue Xiaowan and opening his palm.

"Oh? Xiao Wen is going to help us with the interviews?"

Xue Xiaowan hesitated before handing over her resume.

"No, just browsing."

Wenjie quickly glanced at the resume. Name: Lin Tao...

Lin Tao?

Wenjie quickly searched his mind for information about Lin Tao.

When he thought about things, the chaotic memories in his mind intertwined and overlapped... like a jumbled mess of tangled threads, and he felt a headache coming on again.

He patted his head and patiently searched through the chaotic memories.

Suddenly, a thought struck him; he remembered the drowning case:

Is he Lin Yufei's father?

Yes, Lin Tao is Lin Yufei's father!

I thought he died in a gas explosion along with Lin Yufei's mother.

It turned out that he had ignited the gas, killing Lin Yufei's mother, Zhang Qian.
