Chapter 210 Dragon Vein Defense War

Chapter 210 Dragon Vein Defense War
Zhang Yongren quickly glanced at his phone again, but the screen still showed no signal.

However, the attack clearly didn't target all cell phone base stations, meaning that the city's connection to the outside world was severed during the attack. It was all premeditated!
Could it be—war?!

The first word that popped into Zhang Yongren's mind was this word; he really couldn't guess what the glowing object that had been concentrated around the building was. It wasn't a meteorite; if a meteorite had hit the building, the fragments would have scattered in all directions.

It didn't resemble an aerial weapon like a missile; rather, it looked more like pure "energy" wrapped up in a ball.

Zhang Yongren didn't know what kind of technology was used; it seemed to be some kind of supernatural force.

He stepped on the gas, only to find the road already completely jammed, filled with the sounds of crashing cars and screams from the crowd. He didn't have time to think; he opened the car door and tried to run in the opposite direction from which the orbs of light had come. But it was too late. After the first orb, hundreds and thousands more were already falling towards the city!

If every orb of light possessed that power, then within seconds, the city would be engulfed in flames!
Before he could even worry about that, the second nearest sphere of light was hurtling towards him. The closer he got, the more he realized that the sphere was enormous, about the size of half a football field.

No matter where you run, it's a dead end.

"It's over! Am I going to die in this natural disaster that came out of nowhere?"

At that moment, the images of his wife and daughter flashed through Zhang Yongren's mind.

"I'm sorry, Jiajia, Daddy can't come home today..."

The ball of light drew closer, illuminating the ground as bright as midday. A searing pain assaulted Officer Zhang; he could only watch helplessly as his shadow stretched and distorted on the ground.

In that instant, he felt a figure step on the roof of his car from behind. With a loud crash, all the windows shattered, and a large section of the roof caved in.

He saw that the figure was a young man wearing a light blue coat. The young man shouted, "Hurry, hurry, as the law commands! Ice Spell!"

A beam of white light shot out from the boy's hand, and the burning sensation on the ball of light disappeared instantly upon contact with it.

In less than half a second, the ball of light shrank to only five meters wide and was quickly frozen into a large ice ball.

The boy clenched his fist and charged at the ice hockey puck, which shattered into powder with a crash. A light hailstorm then fell.

Beep beep beep! Beep beep beep!
For a moment, the cars parked on the roadside were hit by hail, and their alarms blared, filling Zhang Yongren's ears.

Amidst the commotion, he could still hear the boy speaking to the orbs of light: "Jinling City has suffered enough damage in the past. With me, Xuanwen, here today, I'm afraid it won't be destroyed anytime soon!"

As he spoke, the boy named Xuanwen flew towards another ball of light, and the ice balls scattered everywhere again.

After the boy destroyed several orbs of light, more orbs continued to fall.

Just when things seemed about to get out of control, a seven-colored ray of light suddenly spread out in mid-air, rising from the east. Looking up from below the city, Zhang Yongren saw it as if a ray of light was rapidly covering the Milky Way in the sky.

Upon closer inspection, the glow of the sunset originated from Jiming Temple, the foremost of the "Four Hundred and Eighty Temples of the Southern Dynasties" beside Xuanwu Lake. Connected to the glow in the sky is the tallest building of Jiming Temple, the seven-story, eight-sided pagoda—the Medicine Buddha Pagoda.

The spire of the Medicine Buddha Stupa emanates silky streams of air, which transform into a seven-colored glow as they rise into the air and spread rapidly in all directions. This light acts like a veil of iridescent color separating the city from the spheres of light. This veil, almost tangible, dances in the wind, reflecting the city's bright lights like the aurora borealis, simultaneously emitting red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and violet hues.

The gauze looked very thin, so fragile that a small sparrow could easily pierce through it.

Not to mention blocking those densely packed, deadly orbs of light!

But Zhang Yongren was wrong. Those orbs of light hit the veil of rosy light just like eggs falling onto hard tempered glass!
Hundreds of orbs of light exploded in the air! What was heard below the city was not a direct explosion, but rather a muffled sound from something very far away.

The colorful rays of light enveloped the city in mid-air, shielding it from the fierce threat.

Just as Zhang Yongren was staring blankly at the sky, an elderly man with a long white beard and gold-rimmed glasses flew down from above. The old man pointed with two fingers at the crowd in his path. The crowd of up to a hundred people instantly emitted a blue light and then vanished without a trace.

Before Zhang Yongren could react, the old man flew onto his head, pointed at him, and said, "Hurry, hurry, as the law commands! Get out of the way!"

Then a dazzling blue light flashed before his eyes, and he could see nothing. All he could hear was the noise of the crowd. When his vision returned, Zhang Yongren found himself surrounded by a dense crowd of people.

He grabbed the arm of a middle-aged man next to him and asked, "Dude, what just happened?"

"Ouch, big brother, be gentle! Your hand is going to break!"

Perhaps Zhang Yongren was too impatient and used too much force in his arm, so he quickly nodded and apologized.

After breaking free, the man replied with a blank expression, "I don't know either! It seems like there was some kind of attack in the city just now. An old man pointed at me and said I had to go into hiding or something. Now... now I'm just hearing from others that we seem to be in Zhenjiang! I don't know how we got here!"

The man pointed to his watch, the hands of which pointed to eight o'clock, and said, "Look, it's still eight. We're here in the blink of an eye. Sigh, never mind! I have to go find my family; I wonder how they are!"

Zhenjiang? Isn't that place more than 70 kilometers away from Nanjing?

Zhang Yongren looked towards Nanjing, but it was too far away to see anything. He only saw a fiery red light emanating from the southwest, which, if not for the slight deviation in direction, would almost be mistaken for the sunset glow.

"Little Strawberry, Daddy's alright, Daddy's alright! Someone just rescued us, and Daddy's in Zhenjiang now!"

When Zhang Yongren reconnected with his daughter, Xiaocaomei Zhang Jia, tears welled up in his eyes.

Zhang Jia, on the other end of the phone, also burst into tears.

It is 8:00 PM Nanjing time, which is 1:00 PM Paris time. It is 4:45 PM Saint-Pierre de Paris time.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Earth, the blooming flowers and the vanishing shadows dispersed from the clouds and fell onto the ground of Paris.

Saint-Pinin later called this battle, which unfolded simultaneously on two fronts across Eurasia—Nanjing and Paris—:
Dragon Vein Defense War!
