Chapter 526 "Atonement" Trailer

The black curtain, the camera moves, the light gradually warms up, like candlelight burning in the corner, dim, not cold, yet lonely.

Footsteps approached, crisp and decisive, without any lingering or hissing sounds. They reached the record player, wound it up, and with a large hand picked up the stylus, gently placing it on the spinning needle. The notes flowed forth, seamlessly connecting to form an ancient Italian folk song.

The sounds of newspapers, babies crying, and women roaring all accompanied the song as it began, as if they were providing a somber melody to accompany the ballad.

Gradually, the woman's voice faded away, the baby's crying gradually turned into the arguing of adult men, and then the source of the sound disappeared in a very short time. In the end, only the old gramophone remained singing alone.

"Cough cough."

The newspaper was as fragile as a thin biscuit; a corner was torn off with the gentlest of reading. The man also began to cough and wheeze. He got up, his slippers scraping against the floor, his footsteps sounding aged. Finally, he walked to the record player, his wrinkled hands gently lifting the stylus and turning it off.

Quietly, the newspaper was folded up and placed on the table, shattered next to the record player. It was pitch black outside, and the candlelight reflected off the glass, creating a mirror that showed a man with a Mediterranean-style hairstyle and a full head of white hair.

He slowly raised his head, and beneath the layers of wrinkles lay not kindness, but rather an unapproachable and unapproachable aura that kept strangers at bay.

It was too lonely and depressing. Even the quiet needed noise to seek inner peace. So he lifted the window frame. The wind and leaves danced together, and cicadas chirped in the distance. The small room seemed to be infused with the holy water of youth. But he was too weak to be nourished and could not withstand the erosion of time. In the end, he decayed.

The candle went out, plunging the room into complete darkness, and the body swayed before collapsing with a thud…

"Sir, I suggest you be admitted to the hospital as soon as possible, otherwise it may delay your treatment."

The doctor stared at the report, looking troubled and lost in thought. After a long while, he slowly gave his reply. The old man sat opposite him, expressionless, only kneading the cloth bag in his hands, clearly not at peace with himself.

The tall man answered impatiently, giving the old man an impossible task. Behind him, young children and dogs played on the lawn, and the lawn sprinkler squeezed water high into the air, turning it golden in the sunlight and creating a rainbow as it fell to the ground.

Undeterred by hurting the old man's feelings, he spoke frankly and made no attempt to conceal his disgust for the old man and his former family. At that moment, the two looked at each other, their emotions complex and difficult to understand. In the end, the scene of this perfect family made the old man back down. He could only back away, slowly walk out of the courtyard, put on his top hat, and turn to leave.

"Would you like something to drink?"

In the old-fashioned pub, the bartender was wiping glasses. He wasn't surprised when the old man came in, since this kind of pub had no appeal to young people. Most of the customers, apart from young people who liked the retro style, were elderly people over fifty or even halfway to the grave.

"I want to find a job."

He sat down without any attempt to hide it, which surprised the bartender, who quickly shook his head and refused after a moment of astonishment.

"We don't need any more people here, and business is tough."

"Are you George?"

"You know me?" The bartender was instantly on guard when the seemingly unfamiliar old man knew his real name, which he hadn't used for many years. The last time someone called him George must have been more than twenty years ago.

The old man looked around to make sure no one was there, then swirled the wine in his glass and whispered the truth. The bartender's hands began to tremble, and he stared intently at the old man, only to see that the old man didn't care and gave a sinister smile.

"I need a job, a job of killing."

At this point, the video's pace begins to accelerate, various dual-narrative montage editing techniques begin to intersect, and the music becomes increasingly eerie.

"Nobody uses cash to pay now, everyone uses BTC. It's safe, and nobody can find out."

"It's just a string of code on the internet. I only want cash, and he has to pay me a deposit."

"This string of code is valuable, that's enough. Go get to work, I'll handle the rest."

In the dimly lit room, the old man and the bartender sat in front of the computer, the screen glowing with a soft blue light. The old man remained vigilant as he watched the bartender fiddling with something he couldn't understand.

The scene shifts to a container truck where a kidnapped passerby struggles desperately but cannot escape. An old man approaches step by step and swings a large axe down on him! The passerby's screams are muffled, and only his tearful eyes plead for mercy.

Stabbing someone through the neck, shoving them onto the tracks, the blood gushing out amidst flashing lights—countless stimulating and terrifying images were juxtaposed together.

The hissing sound of scraping the floor appeared, and the old man's footsteps echoed in the room where he had started. He turned on the record player, wound it up, and gently lowered the needle with his blood-stained hand. The melodious Italian folk song began to play again.

The screen gradually lost its color and returned to darkness. In the last second before the camera, the gaze lingered on the old man reflected in the glass. His dark eyes were staring straight out the window, as if... staring at us watching the trailer.
