Chapter 35 Farce

Chapter 35 Farce
"Do you even know how to act?! I told you to lie down! Do you understand? How many takes have we filmed this? How many takes?! Are you paralyzed? You think you're a college student? I could grab any random person off the street and they could act better than you!"

The cursing came, but it wasn't directed at Lu Ze; it was directed at the group of students. Lu Ze, smoking, sat to the side without saying a word, silently throwing his cigarette on the ground and stomping it out.

He had run it four times and still hadn't passed. Lu Ze was exhausted, mainly because of the heat. Sweat streamed down his face and he was drenched in sweat all over.

It's not because these students are incompetent or know nothing; in fact, they know more than most of the extras here. But they have two major flaws: they are timid and disobedient.

These guys are all pretty handsome, but they were probably afraid of hurting themselves by doing a hard fall like the other extras, so some of them had a little trick up their sleeves and just fell lightly to the ground, which didn't meet the director's requirements.

The second point is a major taboo: having your own agenda. Some people like to show off or do something sneaky, but the director can see it all clearly on the monitor. How could he not see it?

Director Wang started yelling from the very first take. I tolerated it the first time; they're all newbies, so it's normal. I tolerated it the second time; after all, they're students, so I had to give them face. I was already being quite good-tempered. It wasn't until the third take that he finally started yelling.

The fourth time, no one made any small movements. Everyone wanted to finish early and rest, but maybe they were tired, or maybe they were mentally dazed from being scolded. Three people ran out of the frame. The one who led the way ran out, and the two idiots followed him out.

So the director couldn't hold back any longer. He smashed his water glass on the ground, got up, walked up to the students, pointed his finger at them, and started yelling. It's only because they were students, not those extras, that he could have spewed out all sorts of insults.

Lu Ze was neither capable nor willing to manage the situation. These three boys almost ran out and got blown up by the explosives, which terrified him. He was still shivering and was genuinely frightened.

He wanted to go up there and beat those three guys up himself. If they were just extras, he wouldn't need the director; he could just kick them all down himself. Those bastards were just making trouble for themselves.

But as the argument went on, the atmosphere seemed to change.
This guy is a prodigy, he's never been treated like this before. To put it bluntly, even his mother has never cursed him like that. What right does a small-time director have to point his finger at someone and yell at them?

"Fine, I quit then! I fucking quit!"

The director had never seen anyone with such a fiery temper before. He was stunned for a moment before realizing who they were. His face turned red, and he nodded to the students before turning to roar at Lu Ze.

"Lu Ze! You fucking call your group leader! Get these guys out of here! I can't afford to use them! Their lives are more valuable!"

He turned to look at the three students, his anger turning into a cold laugh as he revealed his white teeth: "You're something else. I've been in this industry for almost twenty years, and I've met plenty of people like you. Wait until you graduate from university, and I'll see how far you can go. Just you wait."

Lu Ze went to the clothing department to get his phone, found a secluded spot, and called Liu Le.

"Hey? Brother Le, come over here and take these students away. If they don't leave soon, a fight will break out, and if they really start fighting!"

They didn't start fighting randomly, since there were so many people blocking their way. They couldn't let them actually fight. But with a group of people in the middle, the two sides started hurling insults at each other, with trash talk flying everywhere, using the most offensive language possible.

"Director Wang, these kids are just like that. It's not worth getting angry with them. It's not worth getting so worked up. Have a smoke to calm yourself down."

After all, he was almost fifty years old. After the argument, the student was led away, and Lu Ze sat down next to him, offered him a cigarette, and chatted with him.

"I've never seen anything so infuriating. From now on, not a single student is allowed in my film crew, you hear me, Lao Chen? Not a single student! I'm afraid I'll die before filming is even finished!"

The producer's men nodded to show they understood. Lu Ze saw that Director Wang was lying in the chair with a cigarette in his mouth and his face was still pale, so he kept quiet and didn't say anything more. He knew that saying anything more would only add fuel to the fire.

"Alright, pay Lu'er's bill, you can go home now."

"Huh? You're not filming anymore?"

"What's the point of filming this? What time is it? Change it! Get ready for the next scene. Lu'er, do you have anything to do tomorrow? I've realized that you're the least troublesome. If I don't recover by tomorrow, and then another guy comes along who wants to hit me, I think I'll be in the hospital." Director Wang was quite interesting. He was a guy from northern Shaanxi, but he had a good temper and was quite humorous. Lu Ze chuckled when he saw him like that.

"I can't really say, but I have to do it. I have to work with you for Director Wang. I just have some things to do these few days, so I'd like to ask you for a few days off. Please don't scold me."

"Alright, alright, let's go."

Lu Ze changed his clothes, put the 300 yuan given to him by the crew into his pocket, greeted an acquaintance, and left the film crew's location with his bag.

It's quite absurd, really. This is the first time Lu Ze has encountered an extra going against the director in recent years. If it were a real extra, he would probably get a beating on his way home.

But it had nothing to do with Lu Ze. He hadn't offended anyone; he was just staying out of it. No matter who caused trouble, he wouldn't be the one to blame. However, he had a somewhat inaccurate understanding of the students at the university: they had too much of a temper and weren't easy to deal with.

Outside the film studio, Lu Ze found Liu Le, who was still among a group of teachers and students. Lu Ze was far away, but judging from his expression, he was probably trying to persuade Liu Le about something.

While they were talking, Lu Ze went to Er Mao's place and bought a plate of grilled cold noodles. It was very sweet and vinegary, and smelled delicious. He stuck a skewer in his mouth and ate it as he walked away.

I went over to take a look at this group of people, and it was quite interesting. The boy who had just gotten into a fight with the director was sitting on the curb, turning his head and crying, wiping his eyes every now and then.

The other group of girls was interesting. All four girls were quite pretty, and they were all crying loudly without any regard for their image. They were probably scolded by the director. I have to say, that director was probably even more ruthless than Director Wang. Judging from how these four girls were crying, someone in their family must have died. They could earn three or four hundred a day doing crying jobs.

The teacher was busy providing psychological counseling to four girls and constantly comforting Liu Le. As for the withdrawn boy? Who cares about him? He can just go back and face the punishment.

To be honest, most of these people aren't stupid. It was just this one fool who got angry and wanted to fight the director. Everyone else stepped in to stop him. Not one of them offered to help their classmate fight the director. They all knew the consequences; they were quite smart.

The teacher was also quite helpless. Yesterday, the students did a pretty good job as extras in the urban drama they were filming, and they even got paid to have a big meal. Today, they were filming something more difficult than yesterday, so how did it turn out like this?

Seeing this, Lu Ze realized that these students were indeed lacking in practice. They might have decent professional knowledge, but their resilience was really poor. It was a wise choice for the school to send them to be extras.

"Um, Brother Le, I'll be going now?"

With nothing to do, he said goodbye to Liu Le and left. On the way, Lu Ze chuckled as he thought about it, realizing that these students were quite an interesting thing to happen in their otherwise dull lives as extras.

After finishing my meal, I went out to watch people play cards for a while, and then I played a couple of rounds myself. After losing twenty yuan, I quit the game and went back to bed to enter the system space.

Three days later.
"Dulu dulu dulu."

Lu Ze put the rice bowl on the table and answered the phone.

"Hey? Brother Zeng, what's going on?"

"Director Guo replied and asked you to go to Tiancheng tomorrow to sign the contract."

After chatting for a while, Lu Ze hung up the phone, laughed, and vigorously clenched his fist.
